My Riding Story

My name is Lizzie and I started riding as a child in North Devon. My first encounter with riding may sound familiar to you as it was on a little pony at a school fete where a lady took us for a turn around the school car park. From then on I was hooked.

I was lucky enough to live close to a wonderful riding stables on the edge of Exmoor called Outovercott Riding Stables. A brilliant place to learn to ride with stunning scenery and a host of jolly characters to inspire a young person into a life long passion.

After leaving school it became more and more difficult for me to ride due to being a poor lowly student and not having the luxury of helping out at the stables in exchange for free riding. The result was I got out of practice and didn't ride for the best part of 3 or 4 years.

As an adult I would occasionally pay for hacks or the odd lesson but nothing regular.

I then landed my first proper teaching job and somehow persuaded my employer to let me start a riding club for the children after school. Here I realised that I'd missed riding too much and had to get back in the saddle.

Recently I have taken the plunge to go part time at my work in order to spend more time enjoying what I love. I love a project so I've decided to keep myself motivated and focused by entering my BHS Stage One Exam and oh what a can of worms that has opened!

I was vaguely aware of this but it turns out that my version of riding needs some work to say the least...
